Abstract

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute conducted the「Survey on Cultural Nostalgia」to utilize data on the cultural leisure activities of Koreans for the establishment of the government’s cultural policies. The survey has been conducted every three years since it began in 1988 and biennially since 2006. In 1998 and 2009 special surveys were conducted to examine the changes in people’s cultural leisure activities in response to domestic and international economic fluctuations, and this special survey was conducted in 2009 following the US based financial crisis.
The questionnaire of this survey is composed of two areas of attendance of cultural and artistic events and participation in cultural events. The section on attendance of cultural and artistic events include questions on number of attendance per cultural and artistic events during the first quarter of 2008 and 2009, inclination for attending cultural and artistic events during the second quarter of 2009, and standards in attending cultural and artistic events. The section on participation in cultural events includes questions on number of participation per cultural event during the first quarter of 2008 and 2009, and inclination for participating in cultural events in the second quarter of 2009, and standards for participating in cultural events.
