Abstract
The「Korean General Social Survey (KGSS)」is an annual national sample survey aims to provide widely used basic social science data for the study of changes in Korean social structure as well as international comparative studies. The KGSS is designed based on the「General Social Survey (GSS)」of the National Opinion research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago, with the partial inclusions of contents used in the GSS-like surveys conducted in European and East Asian countries and accommodating the distinctive particularities of Korean society.
The questionnaire is organized with the replicating core questions, the annual topic modules of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), and the biennial topic modules of the「East Asian Social Survey (EASS)」four member states (Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan) collaborate in, as well as special topic modules. The「Korean General Social Survey, 2008」is the 6th annual survey of the KGSS since 2003 and the questionnaire is composed of replicating core questions, the topic modules of the ISSP 2008 "Religion" and EASS 2008 "East Asian Culture and Globalization".
