Abstract

The「Workplace Panel Survey」is a panel survey conducted on the corporate level to collect data for the establishment of labor market related policies by examining the corporate demand for labor, employment structure, and personnel management system. From 2002 to 2004 preliminary surveys were conducted and in 2006 a new sample was formulated and the same sample is being used in the biennial surveys.

This data is a coordination of the「Workplace Panel Survey」data collected in 2002 and 2003 allowing time series research. The data is composed of contents on the corporation’s employment structure, personnel management, and labor relations for each pertaining year from a main survey, and an additional topic selected according to labor market issues from a supplementary survey. The survey was conducted among those in charge of personnel and labor management and worker representative.

The questionnaire for personnel management officers includes contents on finance related information, context, management/competitive strategy, organizational structure, overall personnel management, employment management, educational training, evaluation and compensation, operational unit, welfare and benefits, qualification system, computerization, and consignment trade. The questionnaires for labor management officers and worker representative include contents on labor relations, works councils, labor-management communication, wage and collective bargaining, labor union, and worker participation in management. The supplementary survey questionnaire includes contents on maternity and parental leaves, non-regular workers, and wage negotiation.
