With the recent dramatic increase in suicide in Korean society social interest in suicide is rising. But the issues surrounding suicide are being handled in sensationalistic manner and there is a great need for methodical and scientific studies. This record survey aims to gain empirical understanding of the issues surrounding suicide and provide preliminary data to delineate countermeasures for suicide. This record survey was conducted by databasing the investigation records on suicide kept by the police, and the records include: the deceased’s level of education, income, family background, drug abuse, time and place of discovery, method of suicide, facts related to the suicide such as reason for death, existence of a will, personality, suicide prognosis, and family and witness’s testimony on the circumstances surrounding the deceased at the time of suicide.
