Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Busan Women and Family Development Institute to discover the state of settlement and demand for social support for the establishment of support policies for North Korean defectors in the Busan area. The survey was conducted among North Korean defectors over the age of 19 and questions were asked regarding the settlement process and daily life, job search and employment, health and education of children, social support, and household characteristics.
Specific survey questions include period of residence, history of residence, reason for residing in Busan, life satisfaction, obstacles in everyday life, degree of benefits from social support, perceived discrimination, intention of moving, employment status, type of employment, channel of seeking employment, job satisfaction, reason for unemployment, intention of finding employment, desired occupation, obstacles in finding employment, measures for resolving employment problem, whether or not recipient of basic living security, subjective state of health, difficulties in educating children, satisfaction with government support policy, awareness of support agency and level of satisfaction with services provided, main area of support, number of household members, marital status, education, household income and source of income, and type of housing tenure, etc.
