Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Busan Women and Family Development Institute in 2008 and 2009 on topics inclduing equal employment opportunity and work-family balance, to collect preliminary data for the establishment of policy for the expansion of female employment in the Busan area. The survey was conducted in 2008 among workers in the manufacturing industry and in 2009 among workers in the wholesale and retail industries giving consideration to the unique characteristics of the employment situations of each industry.
This data was collected in 2009 and includes contents on the state of gender discrimination within the workplace and the state of implementation of the work family balance assistance act. The main topics of the questionnaire include seriousness of gender discrimination, experience of victimization from gender discrimination, types of gender discrimination, reason for discrimination against women, discrimination in educational training, discrimination in work placement and reason for discrimination, possibility of promotion, time required for promotion, disadvantages due to marriage/pregnancy/childbirth, effects of equal employment opportunity laws, whether or not a flexible working system has been implemented, whether childcare support is provided, whether or not maternity leave/parental leave has been implemented, and the degree or burden from childcare/housework, etc.
