Survey on the Demand for Daily Life Services by Residents in Rural Areas, 2009

This survey was conducted by the Korea Rural Economic Institute to collect data for a regional case analysis on the demand for public services and its use by residents of rural areas as part of a policy research for the improvement of rural residents' rights to basic living.
The subjects of case analysis were Hwacheon-gun, Goesan-gun, Jeungpyung-gun, Gongju-si, Jinan-gun, Shinan-gun, Bonghwa-gun, and Hamyang-gun, 8 city/guns with poor access to public services selected with consideration given to regional representativeness and distinctiveness.
The main contents of the survey include the use and demand for public services in areas closely related to daily life such as residence, transportation, education, healthcare and safety, welfare, culture and leisure, and the questions are as follows.
1. Residence
Source of drinking water, reason for not installing water supply facilities, safety of drinking water, common facility in the area, frequency of using common facilities, desired support for common facility, etc.
2. Transportation
Main mode of transportation, desired mode of transportation, time required in travelling to and from the bus station, daily number of bus operations, desired number of bus operations, transportation facilities needed, etc.
3. Education
Time required by children in travelling to and from school and mode of travel, main problems related to education of children, mode of transportation and time required for travelling when attending continuing education lectures, institution and programs for attending continuing education, appropriate location of educational facility, desired use for closed schools, points for improving educational environment, etc.
4. Healthcare and safety
Main place for purchasing medicine, medical facility mainly used, frequency of using medical facility, mode of transportation and time required for traveling when using medical facilities, appropriate location of medical facility, points for improving healthcare conditions, and the time required when using police/firefighting/emergency services and level of satisfaction, etc.
5. Welfare
Frequency of using welfare facilities, mode of transportation and time required for travelling when using welfare facility, major problems related to welfare facilities, desired welfare program, and the appropriate location for welfare facilities, etc.
6. Culture and leisure
Frequency of using cultural and leisure facilities, cultural and leisure facilities needed and desired amount of hours of use, appropriate location of cultural and leisure facilities, and desired cultural and leisure programs, etc.
