Abstract
This survey was conducted by the Korea Information Society Development Institute to understand the state of participation in knowledge search services and its use for the purpose of exploring the developmental potential of collective intelligence on the internet based on information sharing. The survey was conducted among the users and contributors of Wikipedia, a global encyclopedia service, as well as the users and contributors of Naver's "지식iN" and Yahoo's "Answers" the major knowledge search services in Korea and the US.
The main contents of the survey include pattern of internet use, reason for using Naver's 지식iN (Yahoo's Answers in the US) and number of hours of use, reason for contributing to Naver's 지식iN (Yahoo's Answers in the US) and number of hours spent on contributing, reason for using Wikipedia and number of hours of use, reason for contributing to Wikipedia and hours spent on contributing, preference of methods of producing and contributing knowledge, attitude toward culture of knowledge, and prerequisites for the advancement of the collective production of knowledge.
