Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Gwangju Development Institute to collect preliminary data necessary for the establishment of Gwangju’s policy on foreign residents. As the number of foreigners residing in Korea is increasing, including foreign laborers, immigrants through international marriage, and foreign students, interest in the quality of life as well as social integration of foreigners is increasing not only at a national but also on a regional level as well. As a result the need for policy support for foreigners is increasing. This survey was conducted with an aim to examine the lives of foreigners residing in Gwangju as well as their attitude towards the Gwangju area.
The main survey contents include image of Gwangju before and after visit, reason for change in image, images associated with Gwangju, landmarks of Gwangju, strengths and weaknesses of Gwangju, assessment of Gwangju’s various aspects, level of life satisfaction, complaints and points for improvement, inconveniences experience while touring, recommended tourist site, experience of attending festival, Gwangju’s representative festival, leisure activities, participation in support programs for foreigners, life satisfaction of immigrant through marriage and complaints, use of media, level of Korean, experience of attending Korean language training and institution of training.
