Abstract
The「2008 National Assembly Election Panel Survey」is an election public opinion survey planned by the East Asia Institute (EAI) prior to the 18th National Assembly elections held in April 2008. This survey was conducted before and after the election among the participants of the「2007 Presidential Election Panel Survey」to allow a longitudinal analysis of public opinion on the election. The major questions of the first survey conducted prior to the election and the second survey conducted immediately after the election are as follows.
1. First Survey
Level of interest in election, intention to vote, party of supporting candidate, decisive elements in choosing candidate, reason for changing supporting party since the presidential elections, party voted for, major national issues to be resolved by government, evaluation of party nominations, evaluation of government’s major policies, assessment of government administration by the Roh Moo-hyun and Lee Myung-bak governments, outlook on the reform of major social problems, evaluation of the activities of incumbent congressmen, party identification, likes and dislikes of each party, assessment of each parties ideological orientation, opinion on foreign policy and North Korean policy, opinion on regulations on chaebols, level of economic satisfaction, and outlook on financial conditions.
2. Second Survey
Whether or not one has voted, reason for abstention, party of candidate of choice, level of satisfaction with candidate of choice, factors that determined candidate of choice and decision timing, reason for changing candidate of choice, party voted for, difference between party of candidate voted for and party voted for, evaluation of election results, influence of election campaign, party identification, likes and dislikes about each party, opinion on the Great Korean Canal Project, evaluation of the government’s North Korean policy, assessment of president’s government administration, degree of reform of major social problems, appropriate presidential leadership, likes and dislike about major politicians, subjective ideological orientation, political efficacy, chancel of obtaining election information, and evaluation of election campaigns.
