Abstract
This data is a recording of one of the seminars held by the Institute for Population and Development (the Institute for Social Development and Policy Research) from 1969 to 1971 on 「The Urban-Rural Gap in the late 1960s in Korea」a seminar held from June 20th -21st 1969 under the auspices of Korean Sociological Association(President Lee, Man-Gap). The purpose of the seminar was to examine the state of urban-rural gap and the causes and effects of the disparity with the backdrop of a period during which issues of the urban-rural disparity was a growing problem on the heels of advancements in Korea’s economic development. The seminar was divided into three parts, disparity in social structure (topic 1), disparity in education and culture (topic2), and economic disparity (topic 3), and presentations were made on each topic and the topics were divided into two sessions, the first session discussing the cause of disparity and the second session discussing the effects of disparity thereafter combining the two sessions into one group for presenting and debating the topics discussed in each session. Aside from the presentations and debates on the three topics a debate was held with a panel of experts from Economic Planning Board, USAID, and the Agriculture and Fishery Development Corporation. During the seminar a special lecture by Bert F. Hoselitz (Chicago University) was also given on "Korea’s Green Revolution" though no audio file remains.
The data is composed of 9 audio files, audio file 1 is the presentations on the disparity in social structure and the disparity in culture and education, audio file 2 is the discussion by session 1 on the disparity in social structure, and audio file 3 is the general discussion on the disparity in social structure and the disparity in education and culture. Audio files 6, 7, and 8 contain discussions from each sessions and the general debate on the economic disparity. Audio files on the disparity in social structure discussion by session 2, disparity in education and culture, and discussions by each session and presentations on the economic disparity do not remain.
The panel discussions are recorded in audio files 4 and 5 and the general discussion is included in audio file 9. The presenters and the contents of their presentations as well as the participants of the discussions and its contents are organized in the
