Abstract

Following the 1997 financial crisis Korean corporations implemented flexible employment policies which led to a dramatic increase of temporary employee. Furthermore, the issue of protecting temporary employees in view of labor laws and social insurance laws has come to the fore as an important social issue. This survey was conducted to examine the state of industrial disasters and illnesses that can befall temporary employees working in specialized occupations and the measures to address them. Ultimately, it aims to build the preliminary data for examining ways of applying a practical labor welfare system and industrial accident insurance befitting Korea’s realities. The「Survey on Specialized Occupation Workers」is composed of surveys on four different occupations including Ready-Mixed-Concrete Truck Drivers, Caddies, study guide instructors, and insurance agents, and this survey was conducted among caddies. The questionnaire is composed of employment, workplace injuries, workplace illnesses, and labor welfare system. The employment section includes regularity in coming to work, working hours, job satisfaction, and evaluation of employment stability. The workplace injuries section includes topics of recognition of hazardous working conditions, accident experience, kind of accident, injured area, method of response to accident, level of physical strain, experience of medical treatment, and experience of hospitalization. The workplace injuries section contains contents such as state of health, level of stress, and regularity of taking lunch and the labor welfare system section deals with welfare system within the workplace, points of improvement, social insurance, industrial accident insurance, and entering a labor union.
