Abstract

The「Survey on Attitudes towards Corporal Punishment in School」 was conducted to gain a scientific understanding of the state of corporal punishment in schools and the attitudes of those who are a part of the school. Fundamentally, corporal punishment has two aspects, one as violence and another as a measure of discipline. This survey will bring about an opportunity for new discussion on corporal punishment by examining the realities of the theory of ‘inevitability of corporal punishment’ which emphasizes the educational effects of corporal punishment. The「Survey on Attitudes towards Corporal Punishment in School」 was conducted for the「Study on Corporal Punishment in School」and this data was collected from teachers at middle and high schools in the Seoul area. The questionnaire is composed of contents on value system, attitude towards law and regulations, need for corporal punishment, experience of corporal punishment, living and surrounding environment, experience of discipline as an adolescent.
