In order to understand the deviant behavior of youths it is necessary to examine and understand their aspirations. This survey was designed to study how the dissociation between future hopes and limited opportunities in reality is related to the deviant behavior of youths. Although at the point of the survey they were conducted separately as independent surveys of juvenile delinquents and regular youths, they have been combined into one data set.
The questionnaire is composed of level of aspirations and recognition of reality, and values and tendencies of deviant behavior. The questions on level of aspirations and recognition of reality includes questions on desired level of education, desired occupation, desired level of residence, attainable level of education, attainable occupation, attainable level of residence, and incidence of frustration. The questions on values and tendencies of deviant behavior include questions on outlook on life, values, adaptability to standards and norms, crime, suicide, success oriented tendencies, experience of failure, and sense of belonging in a social stratum.
