Through rapid urbanization and industrialization Korean society is undergoing dramatic changes in family relations, kinship, and the traditional way of living. The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics and changes in families and kinship structure of Icheon residents to understand the changes in their perception. The questionnaire is composed of contents on family and kinship structure and views on marriage. The questions on family and kinship structure includes period of residence, marriage, divorce, remarriage, marriage process, occupation at the time of marriage, current occupation, family’s level of education, relations with relatives, social support, religious ceremonies, inheritance, family planning, support, income, and standard of living. The questions on marriage include preferred type of spouse, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, attitude towards remarriage, attitude towards divorce, and view on marriage.
