Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Busan Women and Family Development Institute to ascertain the state of women entrepreneurs starting new businesses and the demand for policies supporting business start-ups in the city of Busan with a goal of reforming government policies supporting women small business owners. The survey included contents on start-up process, business management conditions, changes in living conditions after starting a business, business environment, effects and needs for policies support.
The specific survey topics included reasons for starting a business, amount of initial capital, sources of initial capital, preparation time for starting a business, difficulties encountered during start-up process, revenue, net profit margin, difficulties encountered in managing the business, membership in business associations, level of competitiveness and competitive elements of business, future business plan, improvements in quality of life/income level/familial relationship/social relations after starting a business, advantages and disadvantages in conducting business activities compared to men, supporters and supporting organizations at the time of starting and while managing business, whether assistance from local governments was received and the effects of the assistance, level of local government assistance, need for government assistance, and necessary support policies.
