Survey on the Need for Welfare by Children and Youths in the Busan, 2008 : Student

This survey was conducted by the Busan Women and Family Development Institute to determine the welfare needs and living conditions of children and youths in the region, for the purpose of collecting preliminary data for the development of policy on children and youths in the Busan metropolitan city area.
The survey was conducted among elementary, middle school, and high school students and separately among their parents, and this data was collected from the students. The questionnaire of this survey is composed of contents on daily life, leisure activities, crime victimization, social consciousness, and the use of welfare agency/ facility, and the questions are as follows.
1. Daily life
Hours of sleep, number of hours spent alone at home, activities at home, number of hours spent on using the computer, frequency of coming in contact with adult material, relationship with parents, educational activities outside of school, experience of refusing to attend school and reason for doing so, frequency of conversing with teachers, important concerns, concerns about appearances, subject of consultations regarding concerns, and the experience of bullying, etc.
2. Leisure activities
After school play area, holiday play area, main leisure activity, desired leisure activity, constraints on leisure activities, and the attendance of cultural and artistic events, etc.
3. Crime victimization
Experience of crime victimization, offender, time of victimization, place of victimization, whether or not the incident was reported, and the reason for not reporting, etc.
4. Social consciousness
Sense of entitlement, perception of corporal punishment, perception of school rules, awareness of gender equality, attitude towards minorities, attitude towards foreigners, perception of a multicultural society, and pride regarding the Busan area, etc.
5. Use of welfare agency/ facility
Use of various types of agencies/facilities and level of satisfaction, agency/facility hoping to use, and the need for and awareness of various policies regarding children and youths, etc.
