Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Busan Women and Family Development Institute to collect basic information and data on physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, conditions of child abuse including neglect, and the level of awareness regarding child abuse of parents and mandated reporters, necessary for establishing child abuse prevention policies by the city of Busan. The survey was conducted among third through sixth graders and their parents and among mandated reporters required by the Child Welfare Act to report child abuse.
This data was collected from children and the questionnaire was composed of contents on family members living together in the same household, age/education/occupation of parents, frequency and amount of alcohol consumption by parents, relationship between father and mother, social relationships of parents, relationship among family members, economic status of household, peer-relations, school grades, frequency and experience of various types of abuse, child abuser, reason for abuse, how to cope in case of experiencing abuse in the future, intention of participating in child abuse prevention programs, and awareness of telephone number for reporting child abuse.
