The 「Seoul Panel Study of Children」 is a research survey being conducted from 2004 until 2011 to collect longitudinal data on the socio-emotional development and academic achievements, daily life and health, as well as family environment and household characteristics of children living in poverty to determine the impact of poverty on the development of children from a viewpoint based on the various stages of life. This survey is being conducted annually since 2004 among the fourth grade students attending elementary school and their parents as paired panels.
This data was collected from the fourth year survey conducted in 2007 among children. The questionnaire was composed of contents on emotions and psychological state, school life, daily life and health, and family environment and household characteristics. The main questions of the survey are as follows.
1. Emotions and psychological state
Depression, anxiety, withdrawal, attention, and propensity toward aggression, etc.
2. School life
Psychological school environment, attitude toward learning, bond with teacher, school grades, peer relations, and experience of deviation and delinquency, etc.
3. Daily life and health
Experience of skipping meals, state of health, height and weight, counselor, experience of working a part-time job, and experience of receiving public assistance, etc.
4. Family environment and household characteristics
Experience of abuse, parent's interest and participation in education, number of family members living together in the household, whether or not parents are biological parents, marital status of parents, level of education and working conditions of parents, type of housing tenure, household economic status, and social cohesiveness of residence, etc.
