Abstract

The 「National Leisure Activities Survey」has been conducted each year by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2006 to collect preliminary data needed for the establishment of a national policy on leisure. The data collected through the survey are used to calculate national statistics on the leisure activities of the public and leisure environment.
This data was collected in 2008 from adults and includes contents on perception of leisure, values, subjective happiness, leisure activities currently participating in, number of hours and frequency of participation in leisure activities, location and partner in leisure activity, purpose of leisure activity, desired leisure activity, desired level of participation per type of leisure activity, state of participation in club activities, number of vacation days used, leisure activities during vacation and holidays, average daily hours of leisure, desired hours of leisure, monthly average expenditure on leisure activities, desired leisure expenses, mainly used facility for leisure activity, satisfaction with leisure facility, desired leisure facility, satisfaction with leisure, changes in daily life and leisure activities following the implementation of the five-day workweek, expansion of leisure activities and obstacles, and measures for the vitalization of leisure.
