Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) to examine the changes in the use and perception of media due to the convergence of broadcasting and communication. The utilization of media such as the telephone, television, DMB, internet, and values of the user and perceptions on personal information in an environment of convergence between broadcast and communications media were included as topics in the survey.
The main contents of the survey include, media currently in use, hours of use per type of media and level of user satisfaction, whether or not one is using a smart phone, experience of the proper as well as adverse effects of the smart phone, awareness of the convergence of broadcast and communications, the importance of freedom/social participation/diversity/and creativity, degree of change in the media user environment, attitude towards issues related to the convergence of broadcast and communications, degree of satisfaction with the convergence of broadcast and communications, perception of the diversity of media, policy needed for the convergence of broadcast and communications, awareness of personal information protection, search and leakage of personal information, appropriate level of exposure of personal information, awareness of the exposure of personal information on portal and SNS sites, policy necessary for the protection of personal information, and the possibility of the new media’s infringement on privacy.
