Abstract
The Korean Institute of Criminology conducted this survey to collect data on the crime victimization of the elderly as a part of the study on「Elderly Crime and its Victimization」. This study was designed to concurrently conduct a record survey, questionnaire survey, and in-depth interview survey on the topics of crimes by the elderly, crime victimization of the elderly and environment of crime victimization.
This data was collected through a questionnaire survey on crime victimization from the elderly nationwide. The questionnaire included contents on daily activities of the elderly, perception of crime victimization, victimization from crime in the last year, and socio-demographic characteristics.
1. Daily Activities
Frequency of outings, time of day outings take place, mode of transportation, use of leisure time, people most often met with, friendships, severity of major everyday problems, and life satisfaction.
2. Perception of Crime Victimization
Safety of home and neighborhood, experience of evading crime victimization, perception of crime trends, evaluation of patrol activities by the police, gravity of elderly abuse, gravity of the fear of crime victimization, and possibility of crime victimization.
3. Crime Victimization within the Last Year
Experience of neglect and abuse and reason for victimization, experience of theft/fraud/robbery/assault, location of victimization, time of victimization, content of victimization, method of coping at time of victimization, relationship with assailant, whether the crime was reported, whether or not satisfied with response to reporting, and reason for not reporting.
4. Socio-demographic Characteristics
Gender, age, level of education, occupation, marital status, type of household, type of housing, average monthly income, and means of covering expenses.
