Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Korean Institute of Criminology to collect data on juvenile victimization and aims to explore the extent of juvenile victimization by exploring hidden crimes not included in official crime statistics because they were not reported to law enforcement agencies. In its attempt to overcome the limitations of existing research conducted only among juveniles of specific regions, this survey was conducted among juveniles across the country and the questionnaire was designed to explore the victimization of juveniles from violent crimes, property crimes, sex crimes, domestic violence, and school violence.
The main contents of the survey include whether one has been victimized by crime, damages and losses, season/day of week/time of victimization, location of victimization, how one has responded at time of victimization, use of lethal weapons, whether the crime was reported, reason for not reporting, characteristics of offender, relationship with offender, degree of exposure to crime victimization, general fears about crime, fears for each type of crime, relationship with family and friends, experience of deviant behavior, anxiety, depression, hostility, and life satisfaction.
