Abstract

This survey was conducted by the Korean Institute of Criminology to examine the state of domestic application of the CPTED technique and its effectiveness in suppressing crime, for the purpose of providing institutional implementation measures for the technique of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) being adopted by major developed countries. The survey was conducted individually among police officers, administrative officers, and inmates, and this data was collected from administrative officers.
The major survey contents include perception on CPTED, state of education on CPTED, weight of work related to CPTED, organization of a council on CPTED, state of CPTED related business cooperation, state of departmental application of CPTED, need for and effects of adopting CPTED, preconditions of implementing CPTED, targets for cooperation and responsible representative when implementing CPTED, applicable range when implementing CPTED, areas in need of applying CPTED, need for a system of CPTED experts and willingness to participate, residents’ participation rate in crime prevention efforts, CPTED related resident demand, gap among regions in the ability to implement CPTED, and the effects and side effects of CCTV.
