Abstract

As part of its family planning program the government distributed four varieties of experimental oral contraceptives for one year from May of 1987 to April of 1988 to promote the increase in distribution of oral contraceptives highly effective in increasing the rate of birth control. The Korea Institute for Population and Health (the current Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs) conducted this survey to provide reform measures for policy on the distribution of contraceptives by analyzing the utilization, effects, and side effects of the four varieties of oral contraceptives.
The survey was conducted among married women and public health workers, and this data was collected from health workers. The main contents of the survey include channel of distributing birth control pills, rate of voluntary selection of a specific pill, whether each selection was explained, amount of birth control pills supplied, main decision maker of supply amount, price range of birth control pills, user attitude toward the price of birth control pill, preferred pill and reason for preference, main pill of choice, whether side effects were explained, rate of side effects.
