Abstract

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea conducted the "Public Opinion Survey on Human Rights" in 2005 and 2011 to collect comprehensive data on the level of human rights protection in Korean society and its changing aspects. In 2005, the survey was conducted among the general public and experts of various fields and in 2011, the survey was conducted among the general public, elementary and middle school students and experts of various fields.
This data was collected from the general public in the 2005 survey and consists of contents on perception of human rights situation, attitude toward human rights issues, and the state of human rights violations. The specific survey topics are as follows:
1. Perception of human rights situation
Seriousness of human rights problems, improvements in human rights protection, primary violators of human rights, primary group requiring human rights protection, seriousness of human rights violations by issue, seriousness of human rights violations by organization, seriousness of discrimination by issue, seriousness of human rights violations of teenagers, need for human rights education, and awareness of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea
2. Attitude toward human rights issues
Quotas for women, corporal punishment, employment age limits, death penalty, assistance for disabled persons, religious ceremonies in schools, random questioning by police officer, acceptance of homosexuals, human rights for prisoners, search of students’ belongings, medical care for foreigners, guarantee of freedom of assembly and demonstration, National Security Act, conscientious objection to military service, discrimination of contract workers, disclosure of personal information, internet real-name system, and discrimination based on education
3. Violations of Human Rights
Invasion of privacy, disclosure of personal information, violation of personal liberty, violation of freedom of conscience, violation of freedom of religion, violation of freedom of assembly and demonstration, sexual discrimination, religious discrimination, discrimination based on disability, age discrimination, discrimination based on education, discrimination of contract workers, discrimination based on birthplace, racial discrimination, discrimination based on appearance, discrimination of homosexuals, discrimination of persons with criminal record, discrimination based on marital status, discrimination based on family situation, discrimination based on political belief, discrimination based on medical conditions, and discrimination due to pregnancy and childbirth

Usage
