The「Survey on the Causes of Industrial Accidents」is conducted annually by the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute since 2000. The survey aims to produce national statistics on the causes of work related accidents and diseases for the prevention of industrial accidents in the workplace.
This survey is conducted among the recipients of compensation from the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service (COMWEL) due to work related accidents and diseases based on the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Law. The data is collected by organizing medical record data (medical application, medical certificate, accident investigation report) from the COMWEL and survey data from the victims.
The「Survey on the Causes of Industrial Accidents」is divided into two independent surveys on accidents and diseases. The survey on accidents is conducted among the injured and the dead, and the survey on diseases is conducted among the patients suffering from musculoskeletal disorders, diseases caused by harmful factors, cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, and other work related diseases.
This data was collected from disease victims in 2008 and includes contents on the number of employees, industry, occupation, position, years of work, type of work, type of employment, type of job, name of disease, medical history, process of getting disease, and cause of disease.
