Abstract
With the propagation of the internet and personal computers the time adolescents spend on playing games has been increasing. Recently the number of adolescents addicted to games has been on the rise and the dismantling of the family due to the transition to nuclear families has been pointed out as one of the causes.
The National Youth Policy Institute conducted the「Survey on Youth Game Addiction and Leisure Activities」to create recreational programs for the family as preventive measures for adolescent game addiction. The survey was conducted separately among elementary school students and their parents and middle school and high school students and their parents, and this data was collected from middle school and high school students and their parents.
The contents on students include frequency and hours of playing games, degree of game addiction, main leisure activity, preferred leisure activity, leisure time, companion in leisure activities, obstacles to leisure activities, level of satisfaction of leisure activity, degree of family cohesion, and relationship with parents. Contents on parents include companion in leisure activity, need for leisure activities, obstacles to leisure activities, function of leisure activity, needed recreational facilities and programs, and relationship with children.
