Abstract
한국의 민주화 과정을 변증법적 관점에서 설명하려는 시도 하에 「The Dialectics of Democracy in South Korea」; 연구가 수행되었다. 이 연구는 한국의 민주정치체제가 어떻게 도입되었고 왜 안정화되지 못하였는지, 민주화 과정에서 권위주의 정권은 어떻게 출현하였는지, 그리고 권위주의 정권의 정치적 반대 세력은 어떻게 성장하였으며 권위주의 정권으로부터 민주적 정권으로의 이행은 어떻게 가능하였는지를 설명하고자 하였다.
이 자료는 「The Dialectics of Democracy in South Korea」; 연구의 기초자료를 수집하고자 학계, 종교계, 노동계 등 각계의 민주화운동 관계자들을 인터뷰한 것이다. 인터뷰는 민주화운동 관련 학자였던 김진균(1937-2004, 서울대 사회학과 교수)과 윤천주(1921-2001, 정치학자, 전 문교부장관), 산업선교활동가였던 정진동(1933-2007, 목사)과 조지송(목사), 노동운동가였던 김문수(서울노동운동연합 지도위원), 방용석(원풍모방노조 지부장), 지용택(인천제철 노조위원장), 그리고 학생운동가였던 최문성을 대상으로 1991년 5월에 실시되었다.
학자들로부터는 한국의 정치체제 및 발전에 관한 이론적 논의들이 조사되었으며, 민주화 운동가들로부터는 운동 가담의 계기, 해당 운동의 역사적 의미, 주요 활동, 활동 당시의 어려움, 해당 활동에 대한 평가와 해석, 향후 운동 방향 등의 내용들이 조사되었다. 이 자료는 8명에 대한 인터뷰 음성파일 30건으로 구성되어 있다.
