Abstract
This survey was conducted to diagnose the key competency of Korean youth for the purpose of establishing a competency based learning system. The key competency in this survey refers to the overall competency essentially required during adolescence including knowledge, skills, and attitudes and is composed of the three sub-areas of ability to utilize intellectual tools, social interaction, and autonomous behavior. The targets of the survey are divided into elementary school students and middle and high school students, and this data was collected from middle school and high school students.
The survey contents are divided into competency in utilizing intellectual tools, social interaction, and autonomous behavior. Contents on the competency to utilize intellectual tools include the ability to utilize information communication such as the use of the computer and internet and the competency for social interaction include contents on social consciousness and social attitude such as interpersonal trust, social trust, social relations, citizenship, a sense of belonging, life satisfaction, and attitude towards major social values. Contents on competency in autonomous behavior include understanding of social structure, prediction of behavioral results, choice of action, goal setting, establishing plans, performance and evaluation of tasks, awareness of limitation of rights, asserting one’s rights, and the ability for action such as proposing alternatives.
