Abstract

The National Youth Policy Institute has been conducting the「Study on the Human Rights Level of Korean Youth in Comparison to International Standards」since 2006 to estimate the level of human rights of Korean youth through comparative studies between countries on the state of human rights of youths and to establish a human rights environment for youth on an international level. The「Survey on the Lives and Attitudes of Youth」was conducted to collect preliminary data for the above mentioned study and in 2009 the survey title was changed to「Survey on the Human Rights of Children and Youth」. The survey was conducted separately among elementary school students in 4th and 6th grades, and among middle school and high school students, and this data was collected from youth in middle school and high school.
This data includes contents on the right to life and the right to protection among the human rights of youth. Contents on the right to life include level of basic health, physical integrity, perceived state of health, health checkup, disease, level of stress, level of safety from crime and accidents, suicidal urges, happiness, benefits from social welfare services, and evaluation of government support. Contents on right to protection include experience of abuse and exploitation, experience of discrimination, experience of school violence, experience of running away from home, experience of visiting harmful businesses, attempts to purchase cigarettes and alcohol, frequency of using harmful media, experience of loss or damages due to the internet, and experience of invasion of privacy.
