Abstract
The National Youth Policy Institute is conducting the「Study on the Human Rights Level of Korean Youths in Comparison to International Standards」since 2006, to examine the human rights level of Korean youths and to establish a human rights environment that meet global standards through comparative studies of human rights environment of youths among different countries. The「Survey on the Lives and Attitudes of Youths」was conducted to collect data for the second year study. This data is composed of four areas and includes contents on the right to life, the right to protection, the right to development, and the right to participate, and survey topics for each area are as follows.
Right to Life: state of health and nutrition, frequency of alcohol consumption and smoking, level of safety from crime, etc.
Right to Protection: Experience of corporal punishment, experience of discrimination, experience of delinquency/deviation, experience of damages from delinquency/deviation, etc.
Right to Development: Plans for the future, relationship with parents, relationship with teachers, attitude towards studying, leisure time, life satisfaction, and membership and participation in organizations, etc.
Right to Participation: Parents’ attitude toward youths, attitude towards school rules, hair and dress regulations, reflection of student opinions on school rules, and the vitalization of student government, etc.
