Survey on the Environmental Maintenance of the Gwangyang Bay Area, 2000

This survey was conducted to investigate the industrial environmental damage and its management by local government in the Gwangyang Bay area of Gwangyang-si, Yeosu-si, Sooncheon-si, Hadong-gun, and Namhae-gun. This survey conducted among the residents of the five areas collected data on the residents’ awareness of environmental problems, evaluation of local government’s environmental policies, attitude towards role of corporations, and need for cooperation among regional communities.
The questionnaire includes contents on degree of interest in environmental issues, environmental damage which residents’ consider serious, improvement of environmental pollution, principle agents of resolving environmental problems, suitability of local government’s environmental policy and regulations, reflection of public opinion in establishing and enforcement of environmental policies, industrial complex’s level of contribution to regional development, degree of environmental damages due to industrial complex, reinforcement of environmental regulations, evaluation of corporate environmental preservation efforts, awareness of voluntary environmental management, and the need for resident participation in voluntary environmental management.
