Abstract

The survey aims to reveal the characteristics of social capital that form within various groups by comparing the structure and form of networks formed by members of each group, and how the norms of trust and reciprocity are at work within the groups. For this purpose the following 8 groups, which Koreans generally actively participate in, were chosen as subjects of this survey: church, alumni association, citizens’ organization, residents’ association, fishing village cooperative, day labor market, family(clan) meeting, and regional association. This data aims to examine the types and characteristics of interpersonal relations within the church.
The questionnaire includes contents on the five closest members of the church who have contacted or met with the respondent in the last year, their relationship to the respondent, their demographic backgrounds and socio-economic status, relationship between the five acquaintances, having given or received help from the five acquaintances, frequency of gatherings with the five acquaintances and attitude towards everyday relations with the five acquaintances.
