Due to the government’s expansion of the housing construction policy in 1990 the number of nationwide new housing supply is expected to exceed 2 million. But plans to provide small-sized and rental housing for the residential stabilization of laborers is expected to meet with difficulties. Previously laborers have suffered from serious housing shortage due to rising prices of houses and rent from 1988 to 1991. This survey was conducted to devise policy measures for the residential stabilization of laborers by investigating their residential status and demand for housing.
This survey was separately conducted among laborers, labor unions, and corporations, and this data was collected from laborers. The questionnaire of this survey is composed of four parts including residential status, income and changes in residence, actual demand for housing, and recognition of housing problem. Contents on residential status include type of residence, year or residence, size of residence, residential facilities, number of household members, and level of housing satisfaction, and questions on actual housing demand include elements for consideration when purchasing a home, size and price of residence able to purchase, money available for purchasing a home, and preference for rental housing. Questions on recognition of housing problem include intention of applying for worker housing, solutions for housing problem, preferred size and facilities of housing, and preferred location for building worker housing.
