The middle class in Korean society has been the main force behind the process of democratization and although it is a topic that should be dealt with importance in the social sciences, studies on the subject are still at an inadequate state. This survey was conducted to examine the standards in defining a middle class from the citizens’ point of view, and to promote in-depth studies on the daily lives of the middle class, their value systems, and social relationships. The questionnaire includes contents on political action and attitude, education and family life, social capital, class consciousness, attitude towards reunification/nation/foreign, social consciousness, economy and consumption, and he state of household finance.
