Abstract

The study on「Growth of Civil Society and the New Social Movement」was conducted to understand through empirical study how the organizers of civic movements, who are the core of the new social movement, have democratized methods of communications in the process of Korean politics as well as to understand the meaning of the new social movement in a Korean prospective. The fields of activity of social movement organizations were divided into the following categories of women, environment, human rights, and welfare in this survey, and 90 organizations were chosen to be surveyed.
This data was collected from individuals working in organizations focusing on their activities in their organizations and general opinion on social movements and includes contents on the individual’s career, period of activity, network, political attitude, and socio-demographic characteristics of activists. More specific contents includes current position and role in the organization, occupational activities and experiences, channel of participation in activism, form of communication between activists, evaluation of as well as attitude towards new social movement, political attitude, gender, age, marital status, religion, level of education, income, and main location of residence.
