Abstract
The study on「Growth of Civil Society and the New Social Movement」was conducted to understand through empirical study how the organizers of civic movements, who are the core of the new social movement, have democratized methods of communications in the process of Korean politics as well as to understand the meaning of the new social movement in a Korean prospective. The fields of activity of social movement organizations were divided into the following categories of women, environment, human rights, and welfare in this survey, and 90 organizations were chosen to be surveyed.
This data was collected from representatives of organizations focusing on the characteristics and activities of the organization including ideology of organization, organizational structure, staff, and network between organizations. More specific contents include goal and regulations of organization, main activities, political attitude and policy, year of establishment, organizational changes over time, organization’s hierarchical structure, mobilization of resources (income and expenditures of budget), number of members, occupation and class distribution of members, target organization of collective action, contents of collective actions, and relations with external environment (government/local government/corporation/mass media/political party/foreign organization).
