The narcotics control policy of Korea, due to its reliance on a criminal penalties approach, is resulting in costs for crime control as well as social costs in cases of increasing recidivism. Thus, in order for control policies to succeed it requires systematic preventive education measures and effective policy on controlling repeated offences and resocialization.
The「Survey on the Treatment of Drug Addicts and Measures for Social Rehabilitation」 was conducted to investigate the current state of measures for the prevention of drug abuse and social rehabilitation of drug addicts and to collect basic data for the establishment of legal reform measures for its revitalization. The survey was conducted among drug addicts. The questionnaire includes contents on the will to overcome addiction, possibility of overcoming addiction, necessary conditions for overcoming addiction and social rehabilitation, rehabilitation center for drug addicts, and support facilities.

「마약류 예방사업 및 마약류 중독자 사회복귀 활성화를 위한 체계구축에 관한 연구」는 "약물의존자 치료 및 사회복귀방안에 관한 조사 (A1-2007-0016)" 와 "마약류 예방 및 의존자 사회복귀 활성화 방안에 관한 조사 (A1-2007-0017)" 가 동시에 수행되었다.
