Abstract

This is the transcribed data of the conference conducted among field professionals in charge of executing policies on poverty to understand the recent trends on the sites of poverty and their opinions on poverty policies including civil servants and professionals from local social welfare agencies and citizen’s organizations.
The conference was conducted in the two regions of Gyeongnam and Busan. For the Gyeongam area conference civil servants representing the 6 areas of Gyeongnam (Masan-si, Milyang-si, Jinji-si, Namgae-gun, Euiryeong-gun, Sangcheong-gun) were invited and was attended by a total of 4 representatives one each from Jinju-si and Namgae-gun and 2 representatives from Sanchung-gun. The conference in the Busan area was attended by representatives from the traditionally poor and public rental apartment areas as well as 2 representatives from social support agencies.
The format of the conference was made up of an answering session of pre-prepared questions followed by a discussion, and the questions included topics on the characteristics and causes of poverty in given regions, new tendencies of poverty, problems with qualifications of welfare recipients, policy on poverty, and political opinions. The Gyeongnam area conference was held on November 25th and the Busan area conference was held on December 9th of 2005 for the duration of 3 to 4 hours based on pre-prepared questionnaires.
