Choi, Insub / Korean Institute of Criminology
The percentage of criminals taken up by ex-convicts has risen steadily since 1980 and by 1992 has exceeded the percentage of first time offenders. This survey was designed under the understanding that in order to reduce the repetition of offenses by ex-convicts it is necessary to establish criminal justice policies to effectively aid their social adjustment process, and for this purpose it is urgent to investigate the public’s perception and attitude towards ex-convicts. The questionnaire includes contents on social distance from murder/violence/fraud/larceny/drug use/physically disabled/mentally disabled, attitude towards employing ex-convicts, impression of ex-convicts, possibility of ex-convict rehabilitation, policy measures for ex-convicts’ social readjustment, and value systems.
