Abstract

Elder abuse may be caused by the immorality or burden of support on the part of the children but it may also be caused by various factors such as the individual characteristics of the elderly parents and grownup children, the socio-environmental characteristics surrounding them, and the reciprocal interaction between the two generations. The「Survey on the Elder Abuse in Generational Conflict」was conducted by the Juvenile Crime Research Center of the Korean Institute of Criminology to provide data for the comprehensive understanding of the causes of generational conflict and elder abuse.
The survey was conducted separately among elders and adult children and this data was collected from elders between the ages of 65 to 85. The questionnaire includes contents on experience of conflict with children, mental state at the time of conflict, conflict coping method, level of closeness between family members, relationship with children after experiencing conflict, cause of abuse by children, coping after abuse, relationship with children after abuse, and support by children.
