This survey was conducted to gain a better understanding of the lives and work of the women living on islands. Veering away from the predominant cultural anthropological approach, this survey attempts to illuminate the lives of female islanders through an interdisciplinary approach of women’s studies, social work, economics, social education, leisure and health, and psychology, to portray the images of women with their intricate social characteristics. This survey was especially designed to allow the study of female islanders’ objective standard of living, everyday lives, lives of elderly women living alone, and the lives and level of satisfaction per group. The「Survey on Women's Quality of Life in Islands, 2002」is composed of surveys of adults, youths, and children and this survey was conducted among children.
