Abstract
This survey was conducted to reilluminate the meaning of the May 18th Democratic Uprising on the momentum of the 1996 legal punishment of former presidents Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-Woo and to collect data for the comparison of discrepancies in the attitude towards and evaluation of the May 18th Democratic Uprising between the citizens of Gwangju and the rest of the country. The survey was conducted separately among the citizens of Gwangju and the rest of the country, and this data was collected from adults residing in areas other than Gwangju and Jeonnam areas. The questionnaire includes contents on the image of Gwangju and the May 18th Democratic Uprising, attitude towards the May 18th Democratic Uprising, need for enactment of a special law on the May 18th Democratic Uprising, relationship between the May 18th Democratic Uprising and America, designation as national day of commemoration, designation of Mangwol-dong cemetery as a national cemetery, and the consequences of May 18th Democratic Uprising.
