Abstract

Elder abuse may be caused by the immorality or burden of support on the part of the children but it may also be caused by various factors such as the individual characteristics of the elderly parents and grownup children, the socio-environmental characteristics surrounding them, and the reciprocal interaction between the two generations. The「Survey on the Elder Abuse in Generational Conflict」was conducted by the Juvenile Crime Research Center of the Korean Institute of Criminology to provide data for the comprehensive understanding of the causes of generational conflict and elder abuse.
The survey was conducted separately among elders and adult children and this data was collected from married men and women aged 40 and over. The questionnaire includes contents on conflict with parents, mental state at the time of conflict, conflict coping method, level of closeness between family members, relationship with parents after experience conflict, experience of abusing parents, relationship with parents after abuse, support for parents, value system, attitude towards the elderly, stress, and self-esteem.

「세대간 갈등과 노인학대」는 노인(A1-2005-0038) 와 자녀(A1-2005-0039) 조사가 동시에 시행되었다.
