According to studies by the National Statistics Office the degree of fear Koreans feel about crime is exceedingly high and as a result significant social implications are expected. But systematic and empirical studies on the fear of crime are nonexistent. This survey was conducted to promote empirical studies on subjects related to the fear of crime which has been neglected as previous surveys on crime have been focused mainly on the rates of crime victimization. The questionnaire includes contents on fear of crime per situation, type of crime, direct crime victimization, indirect crime victimization, daily life, attitude towards crime, living conditions, community reintegration, and public security in residing area.
