Abstract

Following the 1997 financial crisis the number of unemployed in Korean society is dramatically increasing. Most studies dealing with the problems of unemployment have a tendency of focusing on the economic results resulting from unemployment on a macro level or the behavioral and psychological results on a micro level. Preexisting studies do not carefully deal with the negative effects on everyday life caused by the changes in living conditions resulting from unemployment. In an effort to overcome such limitations of previous studies this survey was designed to study the changes in living conditions as well as increased exposure to crime resulting from unemployment. Thus this survey was conducted to collect data for the study of the changes in everyday life and the crime victimization or criminal activities resulting from such changes brought on by the experience of unemployment. The questionnaire includes contents on the process of unemployment, workplace prior to unemployment, opinion on unemployment policy, financial state of family, everyday life after unemployment, value system, law abiding awareness, crime victimization after unemployment, and criminal activities after unemployment.
