Abstract

With a drastic increase in the number of foreign workers illegally residing in Korea the issues surrounding their inhumane and unfair treatment have become growing social problems. The 「Survey on Illegal Foreign Workers in Korea」 was conducted to examine the working conditions and state of social adjustment of unregistered foreign workers residing in Korea, in order to produce data useful for establishing measures to resolve these arising problems. The questionnaire is composed of contents including the process of entering Korea and employment, work life, social life, violating public order, crime victimization, experience of committing crime, policies on illegal aliens and evaluations of clauses on penalties. Furthermore, by including questions on the criminal experiences of foreign workers it allows for empirical verifications on arguments that illegal foreign workers regularly commit illegal acts.
