Abstract
이 연구는 국가에 의한 범죄자 처벌이 과연 범죄억제라는 소기의 목적을 달성하고 있는지에 대한 경험적 연구이다. 기존 범죄학 연구에 있어서 처벌이 어떤 의미를 가지고 있는지, 과연 처벌을 통한 범죄억제가 가능한지 초점을 맞추어 탐구해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 특히, 수형들로 하여금 사회복귀를 가능하게 하고 재범을 하지 않도록 하는 것이 교정의 중요한 목표 중의 하나라면, 교도소 수형자들에 대한 조사를 통하여 이들이 갖고 있는 법과 범죄 및 처벌에 대한 태도가 범죄성과 어떤 관련이 있는지 살펴보는 것이 이 연구의 주된 목적이다.
