Correctional administration in promoting the social adjustment and return of inmates plays an important role in the national criminal policy. Although for the successful achievement of the goals of correctional administration the support and cooperation of citizens is vital, the level of public interest in the matter tends to be low. The「Survey on the Public Attitude towards Correctional Administration」 was conducted under the understanding that without the support of the public, policy success is difficult. Thus, by examining the public’s opinion the survey aims to build the preliminary database needed for the achievement of a "correctional administration of the people" with the ability to accomplish its expected roles. The questionnaire is composed of contents on attitude towards correction, purpose of punishment, reason for crime, treatment of inmate, correction, correctional policy, correctional maintenance of order, capital punishment, private prisons, image of correction and public relations.
